Travel Tips
- Book your balloon ride well in advance — morning flights depend on weather
- Stay in a cave hotel for the quintessential Cappadocia experience
- Try pottery kebab (testi kebab) — meat slow-cooked in a sealed clay pot, cracked open tableside
- Hike the Rose Valley or Ihlara Valley for fairy chimneys up close
- The best balloon viewing is from the terraces of Goreme hotels at sunrise
- Visit in shoulder season — summer is extremely hot, winter can ground balloons
Getting There & Around
Cappadocia's towns are spread across a large area. A rental car is the best option. Local dolmus (minibuses) connect Goreme, Urgup, and Uchisar. Taxis are available. Organized tours cover the main sights efficiently. Nevşehir and Kayseri airports receive flights from Istanbul. The region is not walkable between towns.
